How manga becomes anime

Adaptation replaces control of the page with control of time. Every episode must decide what to retain, compress, expand or rearrange.

Planning the series

Producers and core staff determine episode count, broadcast window and the portion of the source to cover. Series composition turns that scope into episode-level dramatic units.

From script to storyboard

A script establishes scenes and dialogue. The storyboard translates them into shots, timing and transitions. Manga panels may inspire compositions, but animation needs connective movement and exact duration.

Animation and sound

Layout, key animation, in-betweening, backgrounds, color, compositing and editing assemble the image. Voices, music and effects add information the page never had.

Faithful to what?

Literal panel matching can preserve images while losing reading rhythm. A strong comparison asks whether the adaptation preserves character logic, tone and dramatic emphasis. Continue with the studio production guide.
