Anime OK editorial guide
Genres
Labels help you find a story, but only when you know what each label is actually describing.

Genre, audience and setting
Action, romance and mystery describe story expectations. Shōnen and josei historically point to publishing audiences. Isekai describes a premise. Mixing these categories is common, so a title can belong to several at once.
Read beyond the tag
Tone, pacing and point of view often reveal more than a storefront category. Two sports anime can share a setting while one emphasizes tactical competition and the other relationships.
