Anime OK editorial guide

Dragon Ball episodes

Episode numbers are useful within a named edition. Across broadcasts, recuts and regional releases, the series title matters as much as the number.

The original television runs

Dragon Ball follows Goku from his first meeting with Bulma through the defeat of Piccolo Jr. Dragon Ball Z begins with Raditz and continues through Majin Buu, adapting the later movement of the same manga.

Dragon Ball Z and Kai

Dragon Ball Z’s television pacing includes anime-original expansions and side stories. Dragon Ball Z Kai re-edits and remasters the material with a structure closer to the manga, but it is a separate production and its own episode numbering should be labeled clearly.

Dubs and broadcast edits

Regional broadcasters have divided seasons, combined material and edited scenes differently. When following a guide, match the series name, release region and platform rather than assuming one universal season list.

A stable viewing route

For the central story, watch Dragon Ball before Dragon Ball Z or Kai. Films can be approached separately because many occupy side-story continuity. Use the film guide and story overview to orient yourself.
